FAQ

Why should I get my car ceramic coated?

We all love that new car gloss and shine! What we don’t see is that manufacture paint can be very soft and clear coats very thin, making our vehicle’s paint easily susceptible to environmental factors and damage. Before ceramic coatings, many would spend countless hours washing and waxing their vehicles, striving to keep that like new shine. But wax didn’t keep swirl marks at bay and wore away over time. It also didn’t provide much UV or oxidation protection.

A ceramic coating bonds to your vehicle’s clear coat, creating a strong and durable coating that protects from UV and oxidation damage over time, is hydrophobic, keeping dirt and contaminants from sticking to the surface, and also deepens the color of your paint and gloss of your shine, helping you to keep that new car look for the life of your vehicle.

What’s included in a coating package?

Our coating packages include a full exterior detail, paint decontamination, prep, and correction, which is necessary to ensure the best coating installation and result. Ceramic is then applied to the vehicle’s exterior surface; including paint, plastics, trim, wheel faces, and exterior window glass.

Why do you paint correct vehicles before coating?

Paint correction is a vital step that is included with every coating package. Even new cars need a degree of paint correction. Paint surfaces are covered with swirl marks and spider webbing which are not diminished with the application of a ceramic coating, but are rather more visually noticeable after a coating is installed. Ceramic Pro coatings are designed to last, therefore it is important to get your paint as perfect as possible before application. Paint correction also opens up the pores of your clear coat, which allows the coating to better bond with the clear coat.

How long does a ceramic coating take to apply?

Depending on the package chosen and the degree of paint correction needed, ceramic coatings can take anywhere from two to five days.

How long does the coating last?

Unlike wax that would need to be reapplied every month or so, a ceramic coating is designed to bond to your vehicle’s paint to provide longer lasting protection and shine. Charlotte Auto Spa offers coating packages that range from 2 years to Lifetime warranties; all requiring an annual maintenance completed by a certified Ceramic Pro technician to keep the warranty in tact. Environmental exposures, proper care and keeping on top of your annual maintenance will all affect the coatings performance and longevity. With proper attention, a ceramic coating can continue to perform beyond the warranty time frame.

How do I maintain my ceramic coating?

The best way to maintain your new Ceramic Pro coating is to hand wash your vehicle once a week (no automatic brush washes as they will scratch and mar your coating and void your warranty). We recommend using a foam cannon, a ceramic after care soap, a microfiber wash mitt, and a microfiber drying towel. We carry aftercare products in shop to help make caring for your coating a breeze.

Regular washing will prevent dirt and contaminants from being able to seep into and stick to your new coating. Also make sure you don’t miss an annual maintenance! This is key for ensuring the longevity of your coating and keeping your warranty valid.

What package is right for me?

It’s important to consider how long you plan to keep the vehicle, your budget, and the type of protection you desire.

We always first recommend a lifetime coating package, especially if you plan to keep your vehicle 10 years or longer. Ceramic Pro coatings are added to Carfax and the warranties are attached to the vehicle, not the owner. Which means if you decide to sell your vehicle, the new owner can enjoy the benefits of a coated car (make sure they know about the annual maintenances!).

If you like to flip cars often, then our Silver or ION Packages will be your best fit. Bronze will come in at a lower price point, but due to its lower ceramic concentration levels, it will not offer the durable coating you may be looking for.

If you are looking for the ultimate full body exterior protection, we have our Ultimate Armor package that blends paint protection film on high impact areas to protect paint from chips and scratches, and our Ultimate ION coating to prevent paint oxidation and ensure ease of cleaning and maintenance. Armor Up with Ultimate Armor!

The Charlotte Auto Spa team is here to help you weigh these options and help you decide what is the best value for your situation.

Traditional 9H Ceramic or ION?

Both are excellent options, but do perform a little differently once bonded to your vehicle’s paint. Ceramic Pro 9H’s formula of silicone dioxide and other solvents consist of nano-ceramic tubes that are layered to provide a vehicle’s paint extended protection against environmental factors. 9H will provide a highly hydrophobic shine. Ceramic Pro’s ION is a two-component coating system that provides the next level of paint protection using ION exchange technology that fuses multiple ceramic layers into a single thicker, harder, more durable layer on your vehicle’s substrate. Both require an annual maintenance to ensure the performance of the coating, reseal the paint to maintain its hydrophobic effect, and to keep the warranty intact.
